Using materials collected with the help of Collection more then 80 scientific articles, books and reports are published. The students work on their diplomas and thesis here. We present the methods of dog’ raising and treating, which except the appearance of social deprivation and other behavior derivations, typical for the dogs in the kennels. The methods of raising, treating and handling are further developed.
All these give the possibility to use the dogs in wide
diapason experimental studies, excluding the inhumanity with them: dogs
without fixation and special forcing let to take blood samples (the study of
gene similarity), dogs are working in field experiments at wild nature.
For the fundamental studies of special importance are the results of prey-predator investigations: at the statistic materials is affirmed the possibility of selection of the wildlife populations of antelopes and hairs – the elimination of non-healthy specimen – the possibility to increase the population fitness. The main theme of research in modern time are the mechanisms of this process, which are of great importance for the fundamental science and for convenient research in the area of medicine and wildlife conservation.
The status changes of aboriginal Russian breeds were followed by revision of the balance of dog’s breeds in Collection. At the end of 70-th endangered breeds in Russia were the Caucasus and middle-Asia shepherd dogs, barsois, chortia and steppen windhound – that’s why all this breeds were proclaimed in the Collection. At the end of 80-th the status of shepherds turned to the best and from that time the basis are Russian Barsois, Chortai windhounds and Steppen windhounds, because the population of these breeds decreases all over Russia.
Identification of the morphologic and behavior similarity of the dogs from Collection is done under the estimated in Russia regulations of field and show system. From Collection arrived the list of field, show and complex champions of Russia, more than half of the dogs have the bonus of elite and first class ones.
Collection has the great influence to the conditions of aboriginal Russian breeds from two directions: first is the conservation of the most endangered interbreed lines, second – by creation of breeding groups of these animals in different parts of Russia and Europe.
The study of social behavior and groups establishment is organized as the system of students and diploma works. The conversion of methods approved in Collection for the study of free living and wild dogs of Moscow city gave a chance to suggest the fresh methods of population control and the new conception of interactions between humans and animals in the cities.
The educational role of the non-commercial kennel is of great importance. It is not only the scholarly aim for the students, to train them in modern humanistic methods of animal treatment. More important is the creation of TV-programs, demonstrating the importance and possibilities of humanistic relations with the animals.
Based on attempts of personnel and the support from the Severtsov Institute gave a chance to protect from death more then 60 wounded and detached windhounds during 25 years.
